Men's Soccer Wins RRAC Tournament Championship

With a thrilling victory, the University of St. Thomas men's soccer team captured their first Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday night at the Houston Amateur Sports Park.

The Celts upset the University of Texas-Brownsville 3-0 in the championship matchup, earning a trip to the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament.  This will be the second trip to nationals for the Celts.

The first goal for the Celts came in the 36 minute from #22 Irving Escobedo unassisted rebound from a corner kick.  Chris Natera assisted Paulo Sacramento in the 50th minute for the second goal.  The Celts final goal came from #9 Jorge Contreras assisted by #16 Jack Brett in the 51st minute.

Jason Taffet recorded 3 saves on the night and had his 9th shutout of the season.
