North Richlands Hills, TX - Mikala Colwell, a 5-foot-10 small forward from Richland High School is the last of three signings this week for the University of St. Thomas Celts.
Mikala moved to Texas from Minnesota a few years ago and has loved basketball from an early age. Colwell was named to the All District Academic team and the All District Second Team this season. Mikala was also named the Richland Rebels Offensive MVP this year averaging 9.5 points a game and 6.5 rebounds a game.
"The University of St. Thomas felt like the perfect fit for me." Colwell said. "I knew in making the decision to attend UST I had an amazing opportunity to get a great education and continue to play the sport I love."
Mikala has a great frame to work inside against smaller opponents or outside against bigger opponenets. Colwell will bring energy, enthusiasm and the ability to score from multiple positions on the floor.
"Mikala attended our Elite Camp last year and stood out with her high energy and skill set." Coach Cross said. "I feel as though Mikala is a diamond in the rough. She was not heavily recruited but she hasn't spent much time here in Texas to be seen, so I feel as though we were blessed. On meeting Mikala and her family I knew that she would fit well in our family. Mikala now joins Zariah McInnes and Vasha Moore all high quality young ladies that will enhance our mission here at the University of St. Thomas."
